Welcome to the Mid-Michigan Fantasy Hockey League ONLINE!!!
MMFHL
HISTORY: This is where it all started! On a whim, John asked Ryan if he'd be interested in starting a fantasy hockey league. Both had participated in a league run by Jamie Watkins of WaldenSoftware fame where the traveling trophy was a large statue of Brett Hull. They joined that league in 1996; by 1998 it was defunct. However, after some research it was determined that the website used by Jamie was still in existence, so the young commissioners-to-be signed up for the stat service and the Mid Michigan Fantasy Hockey League was born! The first draft was held in an H&R Block office in Bay City. There were ten teams that first season in two divisions:
MICHIGAN
Birch Run Beavers, David Kerns
Flint Dangerous Crew, Steve Riselay
Houghton Ice Bergs, Eric Rupprecht
Midland Implants, Mike Appold
Saginaw Dance of Joy, Matt Riselay
NON-MICHIGAN
Bangor Ice-Goats, John Schlicker
DC West Wingers, Lisa Meyer
Laredo Lethal Lions, Jane Schlicker
Montreal Mad Hatters, Ryan Scherzer
Ohno Godzilla, Darren Milbrandt
Steve ran up the best record in Michigan and John won the Non-Thumb-State division. As fate would have it, those two met up in the finals and John was lucky enough to walk away with the Sacred Cup (and the tradition of celebrating by chugging Woodchuck from said Cup). That first year only two trophies were awarded, as Darren went on to win the Golden Cup. Since that time several other trophies have been added to the list. We are happy to say that eight of the original ten owners still participate in the MMFHL.

SACRED CUP
Championship Bracket Winner
HISTORY: The Grand Daddy of them all. The only championship that has never been won more than once by any owner. And you can drink out of it when you win! The 2009-2010 season marked the first time we had a repeat champion, as Jane Bradshaw pulled it off. In the second round she defeated her brother John Schlicker. When he sent an email to congratulate her, she replied "Gosh, I didn't realize we are already in the playoffs..." That's the level of intensity and dedication we are looking for at MMFSL!

MARTIN BRODEUR MEMORIAL TROPHY
Goal Scoring Goalie OR Most Regular Season Shoot Out Saves (starting 2006-07)
HISTORY: One of the first non-championship trophies. However, since there aren't too many goalies that score goals, we decided to add another criteria for winning this trophy. When the NHL returned from the lockout, ties were a thing of the past, replaced by the shootout. So now, if there are no goal-scoring goalies, the award will go to the owner of the Goalie with the most shootout saves at the end of the season.
